Here’s the mail, it never fails!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Yay! I had an awesome mail day on Saturday.

Not only did I get my Emmeline Apron Pattern, but I got a somewhat expected (as in I knew something was coming, but not what was in it) yet unexpected package from my wonderful Grandma Betty. Remember how I was complaining recently about not having pinking shears? I almost splurged the other day and bought a set at JoAnn’s because they were on sale, but it would have eaten all the money I had to spend that day. That’s what was in my package!! Yay! A glorious set of pinking shears. Isn’t she great?!

I just had to share. As soon as I opened my mail, I sent Matt a text letting him know what I got and he replied… “What are pinking shears?” Guys are funny.

I have a couple posts I need to make tomorrow - one’s huge news regarding my little blog, one’s typical for Mondays and one requires the consumption of alcohol, so we’ll see what happens, as I can’t drink. Stayed tuned my little bloggie buds.

Yay! Pictures!

Handmade invites for our St Paddy’s Day Bash. Nothing fancy.

St Paddy's Day Bash Invites

This was originally intended as a throw for Matt, but then he told me in no uncertain terms that he hates knit and crocheted blankets and would never use it. Now I’m not sure what to do with it once it’s completed.

Another WIP

Here’s the completed top of Declan’s quilt as well as his chosen backing. Still lots and lots of work to do on it. In the end it will end up being roughly 72″ x 40″

These pieces are some of the cheap stuff I’ve picked up at WalFart recently. My fave is the one on top. When I showed it to my mom it made her think of a dress that her grandmother had made her when she was a little girl. I love it because it’s retro and girly without being over the top. The others are just stuff that caught my eye. It’s hard to tell, but the stone-colored piece in the middle has a linen texture to it. I’m thinking it would make cute Fabric Boxes, ala Ric Rac.

Anyway, those are my latest Works In Progress. Happy Reading!

10 Things that Made Me Happy Today

In no particular order… except for numero uno.

10…) This shouldn’t even really count, but Mt. Dew, Coffee and Thin Mints is the best way to start the day. So really what I’m saying is my mom made me happy today, as she was gracious enough to provide all three. I don’t think she meant for me to have all three at once though.

9…) Tax Returns. Seriously. It may have cost over $250 to get mine done, but we can finally have some breathing room. I’ve already purchased my coveted Emmeline Apron Pattern. I’m also trying to decide on a new camera, since it’s gonna cost $150 to fix mine. I’m looking for something that takes great indoor photos and is more than a plain point-and-shoot. So far I like the Kodak Z712 (~$200), the Nikon D40(~$500) and the Canon EOS Digital Rebel xTI (~$600). I can’t see myself spending half a grand or more for a camera, but only $200 gives me that “You get what you pay for” nagging feeling. Any thoughts? Please?

8…) Baby smiles. Without fail, one little grin from Rowan can put the hugest smile on my face regardless of the mood I’m in.

7…) The bargain fabric I found at WalFart. I’m chomping at the bit to make my latest project with it, but I have so many other irons in the fire. I’ve been thinking about it so much, I even went back and bought all they had left. Maybe I’m so smitten with it because it was only $1 a yard.

4…) I’ve always loved to work with wood and someday hope to have an outdoor shop for things like welding and woodworking. There have got to be hundreds of “plans” here, dating as far back as 1925. Lots of oddities, but also lots of cool stuff too.

3…) I just received a package from Pattern Rescue in the mail. In the last couple weeks I’ve picked up 6 vintage patterns from then for all of $10 total. That’s mainly because I was being generous. All I really have to cover was shipping, which was less than $4. Check them out, they have all kinds of cool “programs” to help you with your vintage needs and wants.

2…) If I wasn’t afraid to put huge holes in the walls of a rental house, I’d be installing a Moddi Murphy Bed in a heartbeat! The only problem with having “extra” beds is they always seem to fill up after a party. Not a problem in itself, but having to look presentable just to cook breakfast the next morning is. :)

1…) I was hoping I could tell you guys the thing that made me happiest today, but I was told I could not. The news has not been officially released. (NO! I’m not pregnant!)

So many things to do…

…so many little boys stopping me from doing them.

Hopefully I should have some updates to my creative endeavors later today. I’m gonna round up the kidlets and get them outside so I can take advantage of the natural lighting to snap some pix.  Steven, my little daycare dude has no school today, so I’m gonna try and get some projects done with them too.

I’m also going to blatantly steal an idea from Nicky. I’m good at that.

Apron, Oh Apron… how I love thee

I have decided that I must have this apron pattern and then I must make at least 7 of them…

Emmeline Apron

Isn’t it gorgeous? And it also can conveniently tie in the front and be all cute and such.

This lovely little number is the brainchild of Meg at Montessori by Hand, and I’ve been drooling over it since she released a picture of her first prototype. I even tried to get in on the pre-order but money was too tight. Then I checked out her Etsy shop - Montessori By Hand - and found even more adorable patterns. So many patterns, so little time.

But don’t fret my dears. The Apronista is having a drawing for your very own Emmeline Apron Pattern. Yes, that means free! Just drop by and leave a comment and you could make one of these beauties for yourself!
